Nepal Flash Flood: Emergency Relief
Our story
On August 26, 2026, a catastrophic flash flood tore through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river areas of Nepal, unleashing a devastating torrent of water, mud, rock, and debris. Communities in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading were obliterated.
Homes vanished, roads and bridges were annihilated, and critical infrastructure including hydropower facilities, water systems, and telecommunications networks suffered immense damage. The true scale of this disaster continues to unfold.
The Human Tragedy
In its latest update on September 10, Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that 1,377 bodies had been recovered, 5,130 people remained missing, and 13,656 individuals had been rescued. By September 13, confirmed deaths tragically rose to 1,386. These numbers are expected to change as search and identification efforts urgently proceed.
This is more than a natural disaster; it's a profound human tragedy, highlighting how quickly a natural hazard can cripple an entire region when essential services like transport, power, communications, water, and healthcare are simultaneously destroyed.
Amidst this widespread devastation, a powerful lesson emerges from a school in Nuwakot: preparedness doesn't always rely on advanced technology. Sometimes, it begins with a timely warning, a decisive action, and the courage to act even before every fact is known.
